PROJECT DESCRIPTION

As the Senior Interaction Designer within the Global Web Transformation team, I worked on several enhancements to Sony’s global marketing site (sony.co.uk). The e-commerce handshake page is one example of an enhancement I designed for the site. The purpose of the page is to seamlessly pass customers from the global electronics marketing section of the site to the local store section. From there, customers can complete a purchase in their own currency within Sony’s local purchasing platform. Within the customer journey, the hand-off page exists between the product page (where customers select BUY) and the checkout process.

The goal of the page is for customers to easily customize and select a sub-model of the model they viewed on the product page. I was challenged with creating a simple design solution that gave customers just enough information to differentiate between sub-models so they understood exactly what they were purchasing. The design had to work within a defined grid system and be flexible enough to work across Sony’s broad product catalog with varied numbers of sub-models.

ABOUT THE CLIENT

Sony is a globally recognized brand whose business focuses on high-end consumer electronics including much-loved products like PlayStation and αSeries cameras. The Global Web Transformation (GWT) team was established to reshape Sony’s online presence—aimed at transforming multiple, fragmented web experiences into one unified, global system. The GWT project provides a common and human-centered experience that builds lifetime value for customers across all of Sony's digital properties. On a day-to-day basis, the design team followed digital design principles of “simple, human, original, and social” to influence and inform our work. GWT’s largest project, Sony’s responsive marketing website, is now live in 60+ countries with record customer satisfaction levels. You can view the site at sony.co.uk.
